Test Code LAB770 Jo-1 Antibodies, IgG
Useful For
Evaluating patients with signs and symptoms of a connective tissue disease in whom the test for antinuclear antibodies is positive. Jo-1 antibodies can be found as markers in polymyositis/dermatomyositis and in patients with polymyositis overlap syndrome. They are associated with intestinal pneumonitis (in the context of myositis) and occur in a far smaller portion of children with myositis than adults. Patients with Jo- 1 antibodies tend to have a severe form of the disease with a tendency to relapse and poorer prognosis.
