Specimen Requirements
Specimen must arrive within 45 minutes of draw. Call Bozeman Health Laboratory Services at 406-414-2119 to discuss best specimen transport.
Patient Preparation:
1. Patient should be at rest for at least 20 minutes before blood is drawn.
2. If patient is to be put on oxygen or taken off for test, blood cannot be drawn for at least 20 minutes.
Specimen Type: Venous whole blood
Container/Tube: Dark green top without gel (sodium heparin)
Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL
Pediatric Volume: 0.25 mL
Collection Instructions: Avoid exposure of specimen to atmosphere by keeping specimen capped in original container. Do not centrifuge. Place a piece of tape over the cap to alert specimen processing not to spin specimen.
