Useful For
- Assessing bone health. In children, severe vitamin D deficiency leads to rickets.
- Vitamin D deficiency is associated with muscle weakness, falls and fractures, and secondary hyperparathyroidism.
- Vitamin D deficiency with an elevation of PTH can result in osteomalacia, increased bone turnover, reduced bone mass and risk of bone fractures.

Specimen Rejection:
- Grossly hemolyzed samples may be rejected.
- Samples should not be taken from patients receiving therapy with high biotin doses (i.e. > 5 mg/day) until at least 8 hours following the last biotin administration.
