Collection Instructions:

  1. Collect a 24-hour urine specimen.
  2. Starting and ending times of collection are required.
  3. No preservative.  Refrigerate specimen during collection.
  4. Mix well before taking aliquot.
  5. Centrifuge specimen before analysis.
  6. Follow special collection instructions below.

Additional Information

  1. X-ray contrast media may interfere with testing.  Samples should be collected before fluorescein is given or at least 24 hours later.
  2. Levodopa, methyldopa and Na2‑cefoxitin cause artificially high total protein results and calcium dobesilate causes artificially low protein results at the therapeutic drug level. 
  3. Non-centrifuged samples may produce elevated results.
