Specimen Requirements

Specimen source is required

 

Specimen Type: Random Urine

Container/Tube: Sterile container

Specimen Volume: 10 ml

Collection Instructions:

  1. Collect a minimum of 10 ml to ensure optimal recovery of eosinophils.  Specimen will be concentrated by centrifugation.
  2. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date and actual time of collection.

Specimen Volume: 2 slides

Collection Instructions:

  1. Using a #2 lead pencil, label frosted end of 2 clean, glass slides with patient’s name, date and time of collection, and type of specimen.
  2. Use a sterile swab to collect specimen. 
  3. Immediately spread a thin layer of cells on 2 clean, glass slides by rolling swab across non-frosted end of slide. (Frosted end of slide should face up.)
  4. Allow slides to air dry.
  5. Place slides in a plastic slide container and forward promptly.
