Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Cord blood
Container/Tube: Pink top (K2 EDTA), purple top (EDTA) or Cord Blood red top
Specimen Volume: Full tube
Specimen Pediatric Volume: 1 full, lavender-top (EDTA) Microtainer
Collection Instructions: Do not centrifuge. Forward unprocessed whole blood promptly.
Specimen Rejection: Gel tubes are not acceptable. Specimen must be labeled properly. This test is affected by gross hemolysis.
Note: If specimen being drawn may be used for a possible transfusion, refer to test LAB276 TYPE AND SCREEN for banded specimen collection instructions and blood product transfusion instructions.
