Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Whole blood
Container/Tube: Pink top preferred (K2 EDTA) or Purple top (EDTA)
Specimen Volume: 6 mL
Collection Instructions: Do not centrifuge. Forward unprocessed whole blood promptly.
Specimen Rejection: Gel tubes are not acceptable. Specimen must be labeled properly. This test is affected by gross hemolysis.
Note: If specimen being drawn may be used for a possible transfusion, refer to test LAB276 TYPE AND SCREEN for banded specimen collection instructions and blood product transfusion instructions.

If screen is positive, then antibody identification, antigen screen, and direct Coombs will be performed at an additional charge. If these additional tests are not desired, the ordering physician/provider must indicate “No reflex test is desired” on request form.
