Test Code LAB275 Antibody Titer, Blood
Useful For
Determining concentrations of alloantibodies in maternal serum and to follow the course of antibody development in cases of maternal fetal blood group incompatibility (include Rh). This test is performed following the detection of a positive antibody identification during pregnancy. Blood may be checked at various stages of pregnancy to detect changes in antibody level.

Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Whole blood
Container/Tube: 2 full Pink tops preferred (K2 EDTA), or Purple tops (EDTA)
Specimen Volume: 6 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Do not centrifuge. Forward unprocessed whole blood promptly.
2. If there is a delay in transport of ≥6 hours, spin down, transfer plasma or serum to a plastic vial, and send plasma or serum and RBCs refrigerated.

If positive, result will be reported as the reciprocal of the highest dilution at which macroscopic agglutination (1+) is observed.

Additional Information
Testing includes an antibody identification and titer. If the antibody identification or titer is positive, then antigen screen, direct Coombs, and a reference consultation may be performed at an additional charge. If these additional tests are not desired, the ordering physician/provider must indicate “No reflex test is desired” on request form.
