Test Code LAB2622 Multiplex Vaginal Panel, PCR
Useful For
The qualitative detection of DNA targets from anaerobic bacteria associated with bacterial vaginosis (Atopobium spp., Megasphaera-1, and BVAB2), Candida species associated with vulvovaginal candidiasis, and Trichomonas vaginalis, the agent of trichomoniasis.
Methodology
Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
Performing Laboratory

Specimen Requirements
Cepheid Xpert Swab Specimen Collection Kit (contact Bozeman Health Laboratory Services to obtain):
Specimen Type: Vaginal
Container/Tube: Cepheid Xpert Swab Specimen Collection Kit – SWAB/G-50US
Specimen: Small tipped swab in transport reagent tube
*NOTE: Discard the large tipped cleaning swab (packaged separately inside the collection kit). The specimen will be rejected if this swab is placed into the transport reagent rather than the small tipped swab included for sampling.
Collection Instructions
Collection Instructions: Samples can either be Patient (self) collected, or Clinician collected. Patient collected swabs must be obtained within a clinical environment.
- Touch the swab to the walls of the vagina and gently rotate for 10-30 seconds to ensure adequate sampling.
- Carefully withdraw the swab. (Do not put the swab down or allow it to touch to another surface.)
- Remove the cap from the Xpert Swab Transport Reagent Tube and immediately lower the swab into the tube.
- Carefully break the swab shaft at the scoreline, using care not to splash the contents of the transport tube.
- Tightly recap the transport tube and label with patient’s full name, date of birth, and date/time of collection.
