Test Code LAB2338 CKMB
Useful For
Evaluating patients for acute myocardial infarction, myocardial ischemia, myocarditis, etc. Elevated CKMB is not specific for MI and may be detected in other disease states.
Methodology
Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassay (ECLIA)
Performing Laboratory
Bozeman Health Laboratory Services
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Plasma or serum
Container/Tube: Light-green top (lithium heparin gel), red top, or gold top
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL
Collection Instructions: Send to testing laboratory promptly.
Specimen Rejection: Samples should not be taken from patients receiving therapy with high
biotin doses (i.e. > 5 mg/day) until at least 8 hours following the last biotin
administration.
Specimen Transport Temperature
Ambient <5 hours/Refrigerated >5 hours/Frozen>12 hours
Specimen Stability
Specimen Type | Temperature | Time |
---|---|---|
Plasma or Serum | Ambient | 5 hours |
Refrigerated | 12 hours | |
Frozen | 3 months |
Note: CKMB stability is extremely temperature-dependent. A CKMB decrease of > 10 % can occur after the sample has stood for 1 hour at 32 °C.
