Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Body fluid

Container/Tube: Lavender top (liquid EDTA)

Specimen Volume: 1 mL

Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL

Collection Instructions: Indicate specimen source.

Specimen Rejection: Clotted samples will be rejected for a cell count.

Testing includes appearance, color, nucleated cell count, and differential:

 

All fluids are normally clear or pale yellow.

Lymphocytes are the most predominant cell in normal body fluid.
