Test Code LAB1921 Fetal Rupture Membrane Screen
Useful For
Detecting the rupture of fetal membranes. This assay detects the PAMG-1 protein marker of amniotic fluid when present in the vaginal secretions of pregnant women.

Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Vaginal secretions

Specimen Volume: Adequate amount
Collection Instructions:
- Take the solvent vial by its cap and shake well to make sure all liquid in the vial has dropped to the bottom.
- Patient should by lying flat on her back.
- Hold the provided sterile swab by the middle of the stick and insert into the vagina until the fingers contat the vaginal mucosa, no more than 2-3 inches deep.
- Withdraw the swab after 1 minute.
- Place the swab into the solvent vial and rinse the swab in the solvent by rotating for 1 minute.
- Remove and discard swab, tightly cap the solvent vial.
- Label the solvent vial with patient’s name (first and last), date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.
- Promptly deliver the specimen to the laboratory. Specimens are only stable at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Specimen Rejection:
1. Do not test earlier than 6 hours after the removal of any disinfectant solutions or medicines from the vagina.
2. Placenta previa and performing digital exams prior to sample collection can lead to inaccurate test results.
3. A significant presence of blood on the swab can cause test malfunction. In cases of only trace amounts of blood on the swab, the test still functions properly.
