A blood draw and urine are required. Blood should preferably be drawn at mid-point of 24-hour period of urine collection but will be accepted if drawn within 24 hours before or after urine collection.

Specimen Requirements

Plasma/serum and urine are required. Blood should preferably be drawn at mid-point of 24-hour period of urine collection but will be accepted if drawn within 24 hours before or after urine collection.

 

Specimen Type: Plasma or serum
Container/Tube: Light-green top (lithium heparin gel), red top, or gold top
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL

 

Specimen Type: Urine
Container/Tube: 24-hour urine collection container
Specimen Volume:

Preferred: 10 mL

Acceptable: Entire collection
Specimen Minimum Volume: 1 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Collect a 24-hour urine specimen.

2. No preservative. 

3. Refrigerate specimen during collection.

4. Mix well before taking aliquot.

Additional Information:

  1. Starting and ending times of collection are required.
  2. If urine must be collected with a preservative for other analytes, only hydrochloric acid  or boric acid may be used.
  3. Follow special collection instructions below.
