Specimen Requirements
Patient Preparation: Patients with hemorroids or menstrual bleeding should not be considered for testing, however, they may be tested after such bleeding ceases.
Specimen Type: Stool
Container/Tube: Occult Blood Kit
Specimen Volume: Adequate amount
Collection Instructions:
- Collect stool in a clean cup or collection paper provided in the collection kit.
- Open green-cap bottle by turning to the left and pulling upwards.
- Scrape surface of stool with sample probe covering grooved portion completely with stool.
- Insert sample probe in bottle and screw cap on tightly to the right. Do not reopen.
- Label bottle with patient’s name (first and last), date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.
- Place bottle in envelope provided in kit and forward promptly.
Specimen Rejection:
1. Urine, gastric, or other body fluids
2. Stool contaminated with toilet water
3. Stool collected in a diaper
