Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Whole blood
Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA) or lavender top (EDTA) Microtainer
Specimen Volume: 4 mL
Pediatric Volume: 1 full Microtainer
Collection Instructions: If there is a delay in transport of >24 hours, refrigerate specimen and send specimen refrigerated.
Specimen Rejection: Unrefrigerated specimen> 24 hours old. Refrigerated specimen >48 hours old.

Additional Infomation
- Testing includes WBC differential, platelet estimate, and WBC and RBC morphology.
- This test is not usually performed without a CBC.

Absolute count (K/uL)= % of cell type in differential (in decimal form) x total WBC count
Example:
% Lymphocytes: 50%
Total WBC count: 4.3 K/uL
Absolute Lymphocyte Count (K/uL)= 0.50 x 4.3 = 2.15 K/ul
