Useful For
- Assessment of risk of developing myocardial infarction in patients presenting with acute coronary syndromes
- Assessment of risk of developing cardiovascular disease or ischemic events in individuals who do not manifest disease at present

Specimen Stability
Specimen Type | Temperature | Time |
---|---|---|
Plasma or Serum | Ambient | 11 days |
Refrigerated | 2 months | |
Frozen | 3 years |
Reference Values
Normal Range: 0.15-3.00 mg/L
HS-CRP values for determining risk of developing cardiovascular disease:
HS-CRP | Relative Risk |
---|---|
< 1.00 mg/L | Low |
1.00 - 3.00 mg/L | Average |
> 3.00 mg/L | High |
Additional Information
- Patients with persistent, unexplained elevations of the hsCRP levels > 10 mg/L should be evaluated for non-cardiovascular origins.
- Increases in CRP values are non‑specific and should not be interpreted without a complete clinical history.
- Testing for any risk assessment should not be performed while there is an indication of infection, systemic inflammation or trauma.
- When using hsCRP to assess the risk of coronary heart disease, measurements should be made on metabolically stable patients and compared to previous values.
