Please contact the Montana Public Health Laboratory prior to submission regarding sample collection and transport instructions.  The NAME OF PERSON CONTACTED will be required upon ordering.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Sterile Swab
Container/Tube: Sterile container
Specimen Volume: 2 Swabs

Collection Instructions:

  1. At a minimum, collect two lesion swabs.
  2. Place swabs in individual sterile containers. The sterile container must have a gasketed seal.
  3. DO NOT ADD ANY VIRAL OR UNIVERSAL TRANSPORT MEDIA.
  4. Refrigerate or freeze specimens within an hour of collection.
  5. Send refrigerated specimens within 7 days of collection.
