Methodology

 

Biofire Film Array Panel:The FilmArray Meningitis panel is a qualitative multiplexed nucleic acid-based test that simultaneously detects and identifies nucleic acids from multiple bacteria, viruses, and yeast directly from spinal fluid samples.

 

The following pathogens can be identified using the FilmArray Meningitis Panel:

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Spinal fluid

Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile tube

Specimen Volume: 1.0 mL

Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.25 mL

Collection Instructions: 

1. Do not centrifuge.

2. Label tube(s) with patient’s name (first and last), date and actual time of collection, and in order of collection 1, 2, 3, etc.

3. Maintain sterility and forward promptly. Do not send by pneumatic tube.

Additional Information: This test will be performed on tube #2 or #3 of tubes submitted from spinal fluid collection.
