Chemiluminescence

 

PTH is secreted by the parathyroid gland and aids in maintenance of ionized calcium. It is used in management of renal patients. Intact PTH is the biologically active portion of PTH.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: EDTA Whole Blood (preferred) or Serum

Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA), gold top, or red top

Specimen Volume: 4 mL Whole Blood

Specimen Minimum Volume: 1 mL EDTA plasma or serum

Collection Instructions:  Spin down and separate EDTA plasma within 20 hours of collection.  Label as EDTA plasma.  Separate serum within 4 hours of collection.
