Test Code BLOD0315 Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPO)

Methodology

Chemiluminescence

Useful in detecting autoimmune thyroid disease. The highest TPO antibody levels are observed in patients suffering from Hashimoto's thyroiditis. These autoantibodies also frequently occur in the course of Graves’ disease. In addition to autoimmune thyroid disease states, detectable concentrations of TPO antibodies are often detected in the sera of type I insulin-dependent diabetics.
